Minister for Science and Innovation gives Minivator the Thumbs Up - Thursday, January 17th, 2008
Minister for Science and Innovation and constituency MP, Ian Pearson, visited local Stairlift manufacturer Minivator to view their facilities. Mr Pearson found the visit of interest for a number of reasons “Not only was I impressed by the way Minivator has utilised technological developments to improve processes and product but also at their commitment and investment in training for the future.” Mr Pearson went on to comment “It is always encouraging to see companies funded by Private Equity ploughing investment into training for the future.” Minivator has a well established apprenticeship scheme for their stairlift engineer which is supported at board level.
James Barbour-Smith of investors Gresham Private Equity told us, “Gresham invests in companies with first class management and high growth prospects. We continue to support Minivator’s investment in market leading innovation and its successful apprenticeship programme as it plans for future growth.” During September 2007 Minivator successfully employed seven apprentices within the Field Service department and are committed to increase this further to 15 within the coming year. At the heart of this process is the clear need to produce engineers for the future who are completely immersed in the company culture and ethics. From experience some of their very best engineers have emerged through the ongoing apprentice program thus entirely justifying the investment that is made.
